The Big Storm

Well, a big 'ole winter/spring storm is expected to hit us, and from all indications, it's supposed to be pretty bad. The storm is expected to start off with sleet and freezing rain then move on to snow. We're expected to get anywhere from 3"-6" or 7"-13" depending upon which meterologist you want to believe.

For your info-tainment, we'll keep track of things down here with personal reports and pictures - assuming the power stays on. To get the full effect, you may need to click on the picture to see the full size.

Friday Night
My Dad and Dale Belsvik came down this weekend to see us, visit a friend in Iowa City and see Ian's band concert on Sunday. The storm began about 3pm, with just some rain, that quickly froze. It is also very windy, with some serious gusts upwards of 30-40 mph. Here's a picture of the van with a little build up.

Saturday Morning
Freezing rain continued all night long, and built up some pretty good ice. It's tough to say how bad it truly is out though. Main roads have cars driving on them, and at decent speeds, but side roads like our are completely ice covered. As is our living room window. My sister Cass was suposed to come down here today, but she has wisely decided not to come down after getting 8" of snow.

Outside it is still very windy and I can hear the sound of ice-covered branches cracking in the gusts.

Here are some pics from this morning. I almost slipped not long after walking down the front stairs.

Our street looking downhill

And our street looking uphill. You can see my Dad's car on the left (the white one).

Our living room window. Lovely frosted glass goodness.

We are getting hit by the same storm. Kermit the Frog, otherwise known as Paul Douglas to most, predicted 10-16". We stocked up on DVDs and firewood. Hope you all are tucked in safe and warm and are able to enjoy the snow!

As of 1:50pm, it hasn't started snowing yet. It's just windy and sleety.
